< back

British Airways launched the first longhaul flight from London City Airport. The inaugural, all-business class flight between London City Airport and New York JFK departed at 1250hrs on Tuesday, September 29 2009. The two uniquely configured Airbus A318s will fly twice daily on the new route, which links the hearts of the world’s two biggest financial centres. Cobalt is very proud to have been awarded the handling contract for such a prestigious service. Both British Airways as well as Cobalt's General Manager of London City, Andy Fitzhugh spoke of a successful launch with compliments coming in at an early stage about the flexibility and proactivity of the whole Cobalt team at LCY. The historic launch flight bears British Airways’ most prestigious flight number, BA001, formerly used by Concorde. Passengers are able to check in up to 15 minutes before their flight using the unique and first of its kind for Cobalt, kerb side check-in facility. British Airways is the third new customer to join the Cobalt portfolio at LCY in 2009.
